Sulphur isotopes in deep groundwater reservoirs: Evidence from post-stimulation flowback at the Pohang geothermal facility, Korea

چکیده
• The 4.2 km deep Pohang PX-1 well was subject to hydraulic stimulation. Sulphate concentration and δ 34 S increase during post-stimulation flowback. Excess SO 4 2− demonstrates mineral dissolution Isotopes modelling indicate anhydrite as probable sulphate source. A stimulation carried out on a granodiorite reservoir in an enhanced geothermal system August 2017 Pohang, Korea. Water injected into the contained c. 330−360 mg/L sulphate, with negative S. resulting flowback water became more saline time, chloride concentrations dissolved all increasing. Compared conservative advective-dispersive mixing models, surplus elevated fluid is saturated respect at downhole temperatures pressures. Dissolution by surface of secondary along fracture surfaces, most likely reflecting fluid, have resulted excess S-enriched fluid. An alternative hypothesis involving oxidation pyrite also plausible but stoichiometrically inadequate account for observed excess, unlikely from sulphur isotopic perspective. This analysis thus contributes evidence water-rock reactions granodiorite.

Mechanical origin of b-value changes during stimulation of deep geothermal reservoirs
*Correspondence: [email protected] EOST, Université de Strasbourg/CNRS, 5 rue René Descartes, 67000, Strasbourg, France Abstract Background: The distribution of induced-earthquake magnitudes in deep geothermal reservoirs is a classical tool for monitoring reservoirs. It typically shows some important fluctuations through time and space. Despite being a very crude information (i.e., a scalar...
متن کاملMicrobiological Fractionation of Sulphur Isotopes.
A fractionation of sulphur isotopes was found in all hetabolic processes investigated except those in which elemental sulphur was the starting substrate for growth of Thiobacillus concretivorus and Chromatiurn sp. and for reduction by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Except for polythionates formed during sulphide oxidation by T. concretivorus or Chromatiurn sp., the products of metabolism were enrich...
متن کاملThe Stability of Two-phase Geothermal Reservoirs
.n a number of geothermal systems, including the 3eysers (Ca), Lardarello (Italy) and Tongonan :Philippines), well logs indicate that in some parts of he reservoir, a two-phase vapouror liquid-dominated -egion is overlain by a colder liquid saturated zone. The stability of such systems is intriguing. Schubert md Straus (1980) have described how a liquid layer nay overly a model superheated vapo...
متن کاملSimulation of Radon Transport in Geothermal Reservoirs
The radon simulation model has been used to simulate radon concentration response during production drawdown and two flowrate transient tests in vapor-dominated systems. Comparison of model simulation with experimental data from field tests provides insight in the analysis of reservoir phenomena such as propagation of boiling fronts, and estimates of reservoir properties of porosity and permeab...
متن کاملGeothermal Reservoirs in Hydrothermal Convection Systems
T Abstract Geothermal reservoirs commonly exist in hydrothermal convection systems involving fluid circulation downward in areas of recharge and upwards in areas of discharge. Because such reservoirs are not isolated from their surroundings, the nature of thermal and hydrologic connections with the rest of the system may have significant effects on the natural state of the reservoir and on its ...
